Living

Apartment Style Rooms for the Visually Impaired

Picture of bedroom with two, twin-sized beds.As part of the outstanding independent living services offered at the Mary Bryant Home, we provide supportive living accommodations for both individuals and married couples or siblings. It's okay too if one partner is sighted while the other is blind or visually impaired.

The Mary Bryant Home for the Blind offers beautiful clutter-free rooms equipped with a microwave, refrigerator, a shower, an easy chair and plenty of closet space. In addition, there is certified staff on duty 24 hours a day. Apartments have a call button to reach staff should they need to do so quickly.

A large island provides ample cooking preparation space and as additional dining space.

Blind Friendly Living Area

Our 36 newly remodeled, double-occupancy, apartments and three double-occupancy suites are pleasant, private and completely accessible. Each spacious room offers a kitchenette with sink and counter space, cabinets, refrigerator, microwave, an independent room temperature control, an emergency call system and an attached bathroom with step-in walk-in shower. Furnished and unfurnished apartments are available.

Furnished apartments come with a twin bed, a nightstand, lounge chair, dresser, desk with chair and an entertainment center. Cable TV is included. A phone jack is available in each apartment at resident’s expense. The individual apartment or suite doors can be locked for privacy. The independent living spaces have ample in-room storage space. Wireless Internet service is available at no additional charge.

The Mary Bryant Home for the Blind firmly believe that all of our residents should have the choice of an active and independent life style as visually impaired members of our community here in Springfield, Illinois. "Independent living for the blind" is more than just a catch phrase, for us it's a wonderful way to live a full and purposeful life. Dining

Picture of dining room, featuring round table, white linens and floral centerpieces.The remodeled apartments and suites come complete with a kitchenette for those who prefer to prepare and enjoy their meals or other refreshments in privacy. The facility employs excellent cooks who prepare three delicious and nutritious meals each day for those residents who choose to eat in the pleasant surroundings of the home’s dining room. Meals include a selection of entrees, soups, salads, breads and desserts. Snacks, juices, coffee and tea are available 24 hours a day.

Housekeeping is available to residents and a service plan is determined at the outset of their stay. The public areas of the facility are always fresh and spotless. The in-house laundry room with washers and dryers is always open and assistance is available. There is no cost and detergent is provided.

The Mary Bryant Home for the Blind has a selection of toiletries, postage stamps, greeting cards and other accouterments available in the in-house store.

Activities

While the busiest place at the Mary Bryant Home for the Blind is the activity room, you will also find residents making use of the vending machines, laundry facilities and especially the resident's kitchen, where people can meet and enjoy a cup of coffee or juice and snacks together while listening to favorite radio or TV program. There is always something going on at Mary Bryant Home for the Blind if you want to join the activities, and if not, just relax in the comfort of your room or go outside to enjoy the home's beautiful courtyard.

Transportation

Resident getting onto multi-passenger van.The Mary Bryant Home for the Blind has a multi-passenger van, as well as other vehicles, that can be used to transport residents to a variety of appointments and activities. The van is used to transport residents on excursions to performing arts and sporting events, bowling, shopping, tours and other leisure-time activities.

Transportation for residents is provided to and from local medical appointments and one-on-one shopping, when scheduled, at no charge. Transportation to out-of-town venues is available to residents for a nominal fee.

Healthcare

Photo of healthcare staff.A registered nurse and licensed professional nurses are employed to assist the residents with their healthcare needs. Certified Nursing Assistants are on site 24 hours a day.
